Cameos in antique jewelry seem ubiquitous, every broach, pendant etc had a beautiful woman or Greek goddess carved into it. Cameos are typically carved out of carnelian shell, it's a soft color and allows for a low intensity contract between the foreground and background colors. When looking through thousands of cameos, I only choose to work with the most rare, in material or scene. Angels and cherubs are quite rare in cameo depictions.
